What is a Zapier Task?

Zapier bills based on "tasks," not the number of Zaps you create. A task is one successful action step. The trigger that starts a Zap is free. Filters are free. Only action steps that execute successfully count toward your monthly limit.

Visual example

Trigger: new form submissionAdd to CRM (1 task)Send welcome email (1 task)

This 3-step Zap uses 2 tasks per run. If it runs 500 times per month, that is 1,000 tasks.

Team Plan

Is Zapier Too Expensive?

That depends on your volume and complexity. Zapier is the easiest automation platform to learn, with 7,000+ app integrations. For low-volume, simple workflows, it is hard to beat. But once you scale beyond a few hundred tasks per month, the cost per task becomes significant.

Make (formerly Integromat) offers a comparable feature set at roughly one-third the cost per operation. Its visual workflow builder is slightly more complex but handles branching, loops, and error handling better than Zapier. For teams comfortable with a short learning curve, Make is often the better value.

If you are technical and willing to self-host, n8n provides unlimited workflows and executions for free. It requires a server and some DevOps knowledge, but there are no per-task charges at all.

Cost Per Task by Plan

Task pricing is not linear. Higher plans offer a lower cost per task, but they also include features that lower-tier plans lack entirely.

Starter

~$0.04

per task ($29.99 / 750)

Professional

~$0.037

per task ($73.50 / 2,000)

Team

~$0.052

per task ($103.50 / 2,000)

Additional tasks

$0.01-0.03

per extra task (varies by plan)

Note: The Team plan costs more per task than Professional because you are paying for the shared workspace, premier support, and collaboration features rather than a lower per-task rate.

Which Plan Should You Pick?

Free Plan

Best for individuals testing Zapier or running a handful of simple, single-step automations. If you need fewer than 100 tasks per month and can live with 15-minute polling intervals, the free tier is genuinely useful.

Starter Plan

Good for freelancers or small teams who need multi-step Zaps and up to 750 tasks per month. The $29.99/mo annual price makes it affordable for light automation use cases.

Professional Plan

The most popular choice. Unlimited Zaps, 2,000 tasks, webhooks, custom logic with Paths, and 2-minute update intervals. This is the plan most growing businesses need.

Team & Enterprise

Choose Team when multiple people need to build and manage Zaps collaboratively. Enterprise adds SSO, SAML, and a dedicated customer success manager for large organizations with compliance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Zapier cost in 2026?
Zapier offers five plans: Free ($0/mo, 100 tasks), Starter ($29.99/mo annual, 750 tasks), Professional ($73.50/mo annual, 2,000 tasks), Team ($103.50/mo annual, 2,000 tasks + shared workspace), and Enterprise (custom pricing). Monthly billing costs 30-40% more than annual.
What counts as a Zapier task?
A task is one successful action step in a Zap. Triggers do not count. Filter steps do not count. Only action steps that run successfully are billed. A 3-step Zap with 1 trigger and 2 actions uses 2 tasks per run.
What happens when I run out of tasks?
Zapier pauses all your Zaps until your next billing cycle starts. You can upgrade your plan at any time to resume them immediately, or wait for the cycle to reset. Check your account settings to see if auto-upgrade is enabled.
Do failed tasks count toward my limit?
No. Only successful action executions count as tasks. If a step errors out or a filter stops the Zap before actions run, no tasks are consumed.
Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?
Yes. You can switch to annual billing at any time and start saving immediately. Switching from annual to monthly takes effect at the end of your current annual term.
Does Zapier offer a free trial of paid plans?
Zapier offers a 14-day free trial of the Professional plan. You can test multi-step Zaps, webhooks, and premium apps before committing. No credit card is required to start the trial.
Is Zapier worth the price compared to alternatives?
Zapier is more expensive per task than Make or n8n, but it has 7,000+ integrations and is the easiest platform to learn. For simple workflows with common apps, Zapier saves time. For high-volume or complex workflows, Make or n8n often provide better value.
How do I check my current task usage?
Log in to Zapier, go to Settings, then Usage. The dashboard shows your current month's task consumption, remaining allowance, and historical usage trends.
